Discover the covert meeting spots, the late-night bars, and residences of notable figures in Brooklyn’s queer scene. We’ll head to a coffee shop afterwards for conversation.

Hugh Ryan is the award-winning author of When Brooklyn Was Queer (2019) and The Women’s House of Detention (2022). He teaches creative nonfiction in the MFA program at the Bennington Writing Seminars, and runs the Queer History 101 Book Club at Allstora.com with the world-famous performer Peppermint. For the last five years, he has worked with the NYC Department of Education to create syllabuses, teacher guides, posters, lesson plans, and comics on LGBTQ+ history.
